It is certainly easier to slide down hill than to climb a mountain, but the result is quite different. PHYSICAL SCIENCE 2011-12 Course Description This physical science course is a "hands on" science investigation course. The entire course is based on the student understanding and investigating "cause and effect" relationships in the natural world. Physical Science examines the relationship between matter and energy. Students taking this course learn Physical Science through the process of inquiry involving hands-on laboratory investigations, individual, and group activities and projects. Using available technology, students investigate such topics as forces and motion, the chemical and physical properties of matter, the ways in which matter and energy interact within the natural world, and the forms and properties of energy. Students are expected to have a basic understanding of Algebra, as mathematics is used throughout the course to describe and illustrate physical concepts. Conservation of matter and energy is an underlying theme throughout the entire course. The study of Physical Science provides inquiry skills and knowledge needed for problem solving and ethical decision-making about matters of scientific and technological concern. Physical Science offers a foundation for studies in Chemistry and Physics.
